When employees in an Antigua office building reported extreme fatigue, headache and respiratory distress, the Antigua government contacted Dr. Richard M. Lynch, Ph.D., CIH to investigate. Lynch interviewed employees, collected air quality measurements, mold and chemical samples and conducted an HVAC assessment to aid the employer in determining any potential building-related conditions.
The findings from the investigation highlight the major causes of Sick Building Syndrome and Building Related Illness which are commonly encountered, as well as some unique building management practices particular to that area.
Factors that commonly impact air quality include:
- Fresh Air Supply
- Chemical Contaminants from indoor and outdoor sources
- Microbiological Contamination
- Temperature and Humidity Control
This investigation provided new insights into the cause of building related air quality concerns and reinforced fundamental principles for managing air quality for our U.S. client base.
